What is AI (artificial intelligence)?

In the 1940s and 50s, a group of mathematics, psychology, engineering, economics and political science started discussing the possibilities of an artificial brain. The field of artificial intelligence (AI) research was founded on a workshop at Darthmouth College in 1956. AI is used for a machine (intelligent agent). It mimics human intelligence like sense, reason, act and adapt. The market of AI-related products has reached > 8 billion dollars. The applications of AI touched business, life, health and wealth in many ways.
According to the Royal Society "Technology with AI at its heart has the power to change the world, but what exactly is Artificial Intelligence?"
